Falcon Beach/West Hawk/Rennie River Blues: Saturday, July 26th!

Fill the seats of justice with good men, not so absolute in goodness as to forget what human frailty is. -Thomas Noon Talfourd (1795-1854)

Just a quick message to let you know that we will be coming on Friday and we have decided to stay at a hotel and make it a mini holiday. Thanks to your friend for her thoughtful offer. So there will probably be 5 of us for the service. Any questions send us a text or email   Thanks Judy

Hi Judy! Thanks for letting me know about stay. Understand completely.

This will be a very short message as loads of trouble with connecting to Internet at moment. We're asking people to be at Chapel Lawn at 11:45 am on Friday, August 1st. You can park near Office and we will be escorted to grave site by one of the staff members, in our vehicles. Haven't yet decided upon a place for a meal afterwards but will let you know as soon as we know. Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality and lovely visit. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello Sorrentonians!

First an foremost, I apologize for not replying sooner. However, when I say "No excuses, but plenty of reasons", I'm actually telling the truth. Your last email arrived last Monday and we were right in the midst of packing for our trip to Winnipeg. Left the next morning and have been on the road ever since yesterday when we arrived here in Falcon Lake at Cora Lee's parents. Social/travel whirlwind before that, (Communication now frustratingly exacerbated with Internet connectivity problems, here in Falcon, via Cora Lee's brother's satellite wireless service!), so have been struggling just to keep my head above virtual water.

Brief review of past few weeks: GF in Naramata. I drove up on Monday, July 7th, for pre-training. Busy with Folk Fest the following weekend. Weather didn't look overly promising but it turned out quite nicely with but a few sprinkles only. Monday mad packing and we drove to Calgary, on Tuesday, to stay with close friend, Jan. She lives near Kensington Wine Market so who could ask for more! Next day to Medicine Hat to stay with friend Jim, Jan's boyfriend. Then to Kenton, about 50 km west of Brandon, to stay with cousins on their farm there for the night. Friday into Winnipeg to stop at Chapel Lawn to finalize memorial service for Mom on August 1st. Large Durston family gathering to celebrate Cora Lee's parent's 69th wedding anniversary, next day, on Saturday, at Falcon Lake.

What with all the activity still managed a number of decent rides. Friday before Folk Fest started, rode to Iona, (out by YVR runways)/Steveston, via Marine, around 11:00 am. One great thing about GF distance is now 100 km, over mainly flat terrain, seems like a walk in the park! Stats for ride:

Monday, before I started packing in earnest, did a similar ride as I knew I'd not be cycling for some time. Stats:

Had a short ride after unloading the car yesterday, just to stretch my legs before dinner: Stats:

Today I enjoyed a very pleasant ride to West Hawk and then Rennie River. Have done this ride quite a few times over my stays here, last two or three years. Felt pretty good, except for the fierce head wind, both ways, at times, of course! Only good thing about heading into it was the fact that it helped to keep the swarms of deer flies from eating me alive. Bugs are really terrible this summer, what with all the rain that has plagued the prairies this spring/summer.
Stats for today's ride:

Trust all goes well with everyone. Fondestos from Cora Lee. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Dear Jenny, sorry to be so slow in responding to you. Only excuse is Folk Fest and then madly preparing for drive to Manitoba. Now that I'm finally at my parents place have now started to answer emails.

I'm not sure who to suggest for a quotation regarding his contributions to the library world. You can tell from his obit how honoured he was and how much he contributed to librarians who he taught and mentored.

I always remember Sam as being the most supportive patron of libraries that I knew. He use to drop Miriam off to the hair dressers or to shop and then go to whatever library was the closest. I was a branch head at many that he dropped into and he was always so pleased to see a former student.

Obviously the tribute from his daughters is very long and I would be happy to edit it if you want. It does however give a very accurate picture of Sam's contribution to his family, students, UBC and the community. Let me know how I can help. Best Corinne

I can't remember sending this to you...hope you're and sound xoxo...see u in 4 sleeps!

I asked you to make a copy for me so I could hang on the family wall. Thanks for the pic in the meantime. See you soon! Mom
