Broadway Joe Blues: Tuesday, November 25th!

We haven't yet learned how to stay human when assembled in masses. -Lewis Thomas, physician and author (1913-1993)

hi Peter and Lynne, This is what I was thinking of emailing back to Vishal: We would like to start tour in Chennai and stay there 2 nights. and spend 2 nights in Madurai and in Kochi and skip Calicut. A friend also recommends Ooty as the hill station to visit rather than Mount Abu. Vishal, what do you think?

And 3 nights in Mumbai and not go to Pushkar for the camel fair and tenting.
Instead we want to go to Varanasi for 2 nights and stay at the Palace on Ganges and stay in Delhi for at least 3 nights. And while in Delhi we want to stay at the Maidens Hotel. These changes add 2 nights to our trip but I think would be worth it.

These are mainly recommendations from Janet. But I was wondering if adding another internal flight might help as well. Which I would suggest to him. Maybe from Varanasi to Delhi. Noticed that drive from Jaipur to Agra is 7 hours, maybe we should be flying there. Right now we are flying to Mumbai from Goa and from Mumbai to Udaipur. What do you guys think? Hugs Corinne

  • Patrick James Dunn So you finally found someone to do your homework for you! Congratulations, Dearest Host Daughter!

    • Nadienka Wyss Hahaha cruel Host Fati! He's been doing my homework for almost 3 years now
    • Patrick James Dunn Mind keeping your Host Parents in the loop!!!!
Corinne, Those are great suggestions. One thought – perhaps we consider a train ride on one of those long legs, such as Varanasi-Delhi? Lynne won’t surface for a while this morning but we should get her thoughts too. Peter

Patriçio, late response, lo siento! Actually, my heart did not act up “again”, it is pretty stable now although prone to flutter a bit if I get stressed or really tired. So keep in mind that I need to win at bridge for health reasons!

I am up for bridge pretty well anytime! My son has now moved upstairs, so I look forward to hosting the First Periodic Kitsilano Bridge Championships … but probably in the new year. Place still needs majour organization … Came across this Dilbert the other day - describes my dancing ability perfectly! No wonder I can’t get dates!      [Chloe Alexis Dunn Look at this and watch us! Patrick James Dunn What time? Will you be Skyped? Interviewed remotely? Great media coverage. When does the People article appear? Vogue can't be far off! Too, too bad you'll have to take the bus to the first press conference back in Vancouver. Don't believe your Mother plans on returning "her" car to you! Car-2-Go here you come!!!

Waive all of your Vancouver parking tickets by donating toys!

Impark is once again launching their holiday initiative where you can get your parking tickets voided in exchange for toys donated to the Salvation Army! It’s happening from 7am-11am this Thursday, November 27th at the Salvation Army Belkin House, located at 555 Homer Street. Bring your unpaid Impark parking violation notice and a toy of equal value and they’ll waive it for you, all in the name of giving kids who need it a better holiday than they might have known otherwise.

This year might be a bit of a departure (and more of a windfall for chronic ticket sufferers like myself!) because in the past I remember there being a limit of one ticket per donor; in 2014 you can bring multiple tickets (one toy per ticket), and wipe the slate clean. The only catch is that you’ve got a 4 hour window this Thursday. Take advantage of it!

Hi, Sir Rodney! Thanks very much for all the snaps taken at Casa Vicente! Much appreciated. I had noticed that your email address for Glasgow was "talus" instead of "telus" so I took the liberty of forwarding first message to correct address. Have been pretty busy since returning from bottled sunshine country. Have enjoyed two lovely dinner evenings with different sets of friends this past weekend as well as taking in a number of simply wonderful films at Crime Fest, a mini-series, hosted at the  Vancity Theatre, the HQ, so to speak, for the organization responsible for the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Could go on at length about all the films I attended, (last night with Glasgow to see Metro Manila, Philippines), and Salvo, Italy, (He only stayed for first screening.), but thought I'd mention two from the USA, both set in Texas. Stay well. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Got extra plastic bags, yogurt containers or other kinds of reusable food containers (tupperware etc...) you don't need? Let WISH re-use them for you. We are in need of containers for our meal program for women who want their food to-go. Give us a call at 604-669-9474 for drop-off times and directions.

Pics: Glasgow with Pat and David Coffaro; Cora Lee with Clara and Dusty, her parents, and The Lost Burritos, our grandsons, Pierre and Alejandro; Elaine and Ted Keating, bridge at their place on Saturday. Ted joined me and two other friends, a number of years ago, now, on same sort of junket as with Glasgow and Whirlygig; Squash-playing, hence you didn't meet, Whirlissimo with Jane, his fairly recent amore, over for a malt tasting on Sunday afternoon; Brenda's dinner table on Sunday. We ate off Wedgwood plates which have the image of the Main Library at UBC fired on them.

Hi all, It was fun indeed! However, I am offering to take the pressure off Brenda for December by having a Christmas party on December 20th from 4 pm to whatever (until we run out of wine?…). I know some of you might not be around but to those who are, please come for some good food and “the spirit of the season”! Cheers! Liisa

Hi Liisa! Thanks for the wonderful invitation. We are around so we'd love to drop by. Can you send along your phone number and address when you've a minute. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: A few more from dinner party.

Bueno! The address is on Cranberry dr. (between 10th and 11th , just a block west of Arbutus), you can enter through patio, I’m at the corner), or phone. I look forward to! Liisa – and thanks for the pics. Hi again, Liisa! How appropriate to live on Cranberry Drive when hosting an Xmas Party! Thanks for contact information. Cheers, Patrizzio

Hi from beautiful Palm Springs! Weather still lovely here, spent time at the pool today and out for dinner at a lovely place called Shame on The Moon. We've been cooking in a bit and of course that's always great too. I'll see you soon
Joanne.
Hi Joanne, Patrick is able to pick you up. It works best if you wait outside in international arrivals area. Corinne

Thanks for the updates and enjoyed reading your humorous digression about the Scots....good times as always when Patrick is around....and thanks for the picks. I do remember Rick Fraga being here at the winery in the past, now that I've seen him. Hope you are enjoying the crime film fest! Take care and keep in touch. Best to Corinne and Chloe - also Sarge, hope he's back to 100%!Pat PS: Chloe is the only person I know in your group of family and friends that doesn't have one or more nicknames. I wonder why.

Hi Pat and David! Haven't seen much of Cora Lee as she has been at non-stop meetings and Chloë is still in Toronto, having a pretty good time, it seems. Last message she had just taken in Alex Colville exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario:

"More than 100 works by Canadian icon Alex Colville, (1920-2013), marking the largest exhibition of the late artist’s work to date. Curated by Andrew Hunter, the AGO’s curator of Canadian art, the exhibition will honour Colville’s legacy and explore the continuing impact of his work from the perspectives of several prominent popular culture figures from film, literature and music.

Known for painting decidedly personal subject matter, Colville’s painstakingly precise images depict an elusive tension, capturing moments perpetually on the edge of change and the unknown, often imbued with a deep sense of danger. Featuring works assembled from museums and private collections nationwide, many of which have never been shown publicly, the exhibition spans Colville’s entire career, including iconic paintings such as Horse and Train, 1953; To Prince Edward Island, 1965; Woman in Bathtub, 1973; and Target Pistol and Man, 1980.

Born in Toronto in 1920, Colville was a painter, printmaker and veteran who drew his inspiration from the world around him, transforming the seemingly mundane figures and events of everyday life into archetypes of the modern condition."

When not soaking up art she was soaking up Tequila, apparently! Anyway, I hope she was able to rest a bit as she'll be run off her feet once back as Christmas Tree Lots will be in full swing. Coriandre and I will take our first shift this coming Sunday. Nobody wants to work as it is The Grey Cup Final, here in Vancouver. Our poor BC Lions didn't make playoffs! Fondestos from Mme Coriandre, home at last! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Bridge at Keatings! Elaine and Ted, (Do you recognize them?)

Hi Ms Toronto! Haven't seen much of your Mother since she has her own car as well as attending non-stop meetings. I gather that when not soaking up art you are soaking up Tequila, apparently! Anyway, I hope you able to rest a bit as you'll be run off your feet once back! Fondestos, Love and Cheers, Dad! And from your Car2Go Nana, home at last!

This is pretty fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKdiweRoyRM Laury Hi Laury, et al! Trust everyone is well. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

damn those bike lanes http://www.frequency.com/video/hitler-talks-about-vancouvers-bike-lane/140765788 Ron

Hi Mr Grizzle! Great take-off! However, not as much riding as I'd like, weather being as wet as it is, of late.  Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: We rode over Golden Gate when in SF. First is just over bridge, en route to Sausalito. Last is back at Fisherman's Wharf, after taking ferry from Tiburon. Met a very interesting young couple on the ferry. They own a restaurant near Embarcadero, Stone Korean Kitchen, so hope to be able to try it out on our next visit to Berkeley. Plan to visit friends who are renting a place in Palm Springs this coming February. Might try to visit other friends who have a place in Aspen. Have never been to Colorado so that would be fun.
