Ultracrepidarian:
MEANING:
adjective: Giving opinions beyond one’s area of expertise.
noun: One who gives opinions beyond one’s area of expertise.
ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin ultra (beyond) + crepidarius (shoemaker), from crepida (sandal). Earliest documented use: 1819.
NOTES: The story goes that in ancient Greece
there was a renowned painter named Apelles who used to display his
paintings and hide behind them to listen to the comments. Once a cobbler
pointed out that the sole of the shoe was not painted
correctly. Apelles fixed it and encouraged by this the cobbler began
offering comments about other parts of the painting. At this point the
painter cut him off with “Ne sutor ultra crepidam” meaning “Shoemaker,
not above the sandal” or one should stick to
one’s area of expertise.

Just so you don't think it's always cloudy here, this is our view this morning!
Hi Sunny JDP! Terribly sorry to learn that the sun started to shine once we left! Will head out shortly for my ride. Not planning same distance as yesterday's, in part because I have to pick up my car. Took it in to Coastal Ford, just off Terminal, this morning at 7:00 am for an oil change. Put my Brodie on bike rack so that I could ride home. What a beautiful morning. As well, Byron, will collect me at 5:15 pm as I'm joining gang for bridge, at Clive's place, I gather.
Had to wait for fire alarm inspection and chap just popped by. All well with system so am free to enjoy the bright day, just in case you believe it is always rainy and overcast here on the coast! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Pics: Please note the distinct absence of snow and bright blue, virtually cloudless sky! Sarge, a few minutes ago. I popped downstairs after taking shots I've attached. He is probably returning to work this Wednesday, initially two days a week, to see how it goes, as well as working from home.
Always impressed with your distances. that you do with such ease! I have to say that I absolutely hate going along marine drive after you leave the nice wide shoulder of ubc. I will be looking for an alternate route around that part when I get back out on my bike in the spring. Janet
Takes you a short block just west of Granville and Marine so you can either go over Arthur Laing or else underneath it to make your way, with a few dipsy doodles, along Kent, to CSTB and then the rest is easy!
Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Peter, from Naramata, sent me a picture of view from their place this morning. I attached the pictures I just took from around our place. Stats for ride: http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/678439681#.VL6K4QvBOgs.email

- Patrick James Dunn Have to get ready for the Penticton Gran Fondo this coming July: 160 km! Last year was my first such ride. Longest I'd ever done before that was 140 km at Falcon!
Hi Corinne and Patrick, Just wanted to confirm that we will proceed with the photos and floorplan Wednesday at 2:30pm. Looking forward to it. 2:30 is fine on Wednesday Corinne
Patty Pattycake, just a quick reply for now but YES, let's ride together! Would love to, and I'm surprised we haven't already. I am usually free all day on Tuesdays, and also Fridays before 4p. I worry though about having to see you in tight-fitting clothing though, I may go blind...
Jokes aside, I am probably not as fast of a rider as yourself, but I don't mind the challenge of keeping up. I do not mind long distances (I believe you usually cover 100k at least), actually, longer the better - as the ladies usually say. Let's figure something out, maybe even next Tuesday? or else I will be back from Aussie land on valentine's day (juniper will have to forego romantic celebrations in favour of letting her handsome hunk rest up from the flight and jetlag) Take care, VL
Hello Vittorino! Am planning a longish ride tomorrow so hook up if it suits. Let me know if you are on and I'll plan accordingly. As always, extremely flexible! Anyone others are most welcome! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: When not cycling, I'm bidding! Heavy Duty Opponents so it was very tense!
Hello Clive! Thank you for the more than wonderful hospitality! Couldn't have enjoyed a better time. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Heavy Duty Opponents so it was very tense! Only the custard made it tolerable!!
Patricio, You win the sunshine stakes! Peter Hi JDP! Does winning the sunshine stakes entail two bottles of expensive malt as 1st prize? I see from extended forecast that more snow in early February for The Naramata! Guess you'll be well on the road by then! Looking ahead to Desert Storm, when do you fly back to Vancouver? Should we leave key to our place with Sarge or will we overlap? Not a big deal but we should iron out details beforehand if for no other reason than to book Swedish Masseuse! Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hello Lycra Man and Mr Fjord! Trust all goes well with you two. Forecast, as posted, today, shows clouds but no rain for next Tuesday so I'm up for a ride, Vittorino. Let me know what arrangements we should make for meeting up, route, etc. Fond regards from Mme Coriandre to her favourite Swedish Twins. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Patrice, Hope you guys are well! Just wanted to check in and see how your home shopping went?. I saw on Facebook that you've been out burning up the k's on the bike too. I would love to meet up and get out for at least part of a ride soon. I'll give you a call soon. Cheers, Al
Hi Marilyn and Big Al! Trust all goes well with you two. Busy last week, house hunting, as you know. Vittorino would like to go for a ride week this Tuesday so if you are free/interested, Big Al, perhaps we can arrange something. Cheers, Patrizzio!
