There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept. -Ansel Adams, photographer (20 Feb 1902-1984)
I can host on Monday. Who’s available? Can we raise four? Clive I'm in. Robert
Fairly
decent sleep. Loved hearing the whistles of the passing trains during
the night as tracks are not very far away. We were obviously on the
wrong side of the tracks! Up at 7:00 am to load my bike back on the car
rack and then strolled to a small drive-thru for a delicious cappuccino.
Perky young woman at the counter was very friendly and while I waited
for my java I mentioned we'd been to Jack's the night before. She
replied that it was the place she and her husband would go for their
anniversary dinner. Simply confirmed the fact that I knew I'd stumbled
upon a local treasure after the first meal I'd had there in 1985.
Back
to motel to pack up the rest of our possessions and we made for I-5
just after 8:00 am. Simply fabulous, sunny day and we were treated to
stunning views of Mt Shasta shortly before we reached Dunsmuir, about an
hour out of Redding. [Lake Shasta looked reasonably full so please about
that.] Cora Lee was able to snap some terrific shots of the gleaming
peak as we hurtled along so she is now an accredited photo-journalist!
Last exit before the Oregon boarder we stopped at the hamlet of
Hornbrook to hit All Star Liquors, a pretty decent discount joint with
quite an impressive array of product. Had passed it many times over the
years but had never stopped to take a look. This trip Marilyn and Mike
had asked us to bring back some hootch for them. On way south we went in
to check out possibilities and were most impressed. Didn't buy liquor
for them on way south as we didn't want to have to lug it around. This
time we picked up 6 half gallons of Ballantine's, ($17 US), and half a
gallon of Speyburn, 10 year old, ($24 US), so pretty good deals!
Clouded
up once we were back in Oregon but sun came out around Eugene and
continued to bless us all the way to Portland. After we'd brought in the
muled hootch and our a bit of needed luggage we visited, over tasty hors
d'oeuvres and a couple of bottles of wine before Mike, (He only drinks
beer so he had but one small glass while rest of us were
overindulging!), drove us to the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse for dinner.
We'd been a number of times before and it is a lively spot with quite
decent pub food. Corkage is only $5/bottle so I brought along a 2012
Coffaro Aca Modot and it went down very nicely indeed with the hearty
fare we ordered, burgers for both Cora Lee and I. Back home to
finish off the night with a few snorts of Bruichladdich before bidding
each other goodnight.
[Hi Lads! Perhaps this is the answer for Stanchion Man! Cheers, "Hear No Evil! Speak No Evil! See No Evil"]
Patrizzio Grumpy here.......What were you doing in Socal? I relate below what I
wrote last year after my fall. We are getting old buddy. It turns out I
had first degree burns because I have large scars....Also my back will
never be the same......Dave
Thursday March 27, 2014: I fell down last
night and I do not like falling down. I am guessing the Cast Iron
skillet was about 17 inches and weighed too much for me, filled to the
brim with boiling chuck roast and potatoes along with
carrots and celery and onions with a great heavy sauce. I assume it was
over 20 pounds. I tripped on the rise going into the sliding glass
door.........I am fine just a few bruises. I will not make that mistake
again.
Wednesday April 2, 2014: I know I handle
pain more than most. I keep focus, so when I fell down this last week I
did not comprehend what had happened. I now know I have at least 2nd
degree burns..............after 5 days it is worse
now, oozing. They say not to pop the blisters but I am hoping that will
speed up the drying...............They say nothing about scabs that I
have read so far.......I guess I should look into that now...........but
yes I expect scabs.......I already see some
all over my right side.............Yes that cast iron skillet has put
me in pain
Friday April 4, 2014: I am in pain again. It
seems like only 3 ibuprofen works to ease the pain. Celebrex, one pill
does little and wow it is expensive. I had Celebrex and
Hydrocodone left over from my knee
surgery two years ago. I stored them in the frig so I am sure they
should still be fine, but neither works for me. I probably should take 4
ibuprofen every 4 hours and I am sure I would be
feeling less pain..........but I consume about 600 calories of alcohol
at dinner time for two hours so I do not take ibuprofen from 2 pm until
10 at night. I did get a good nights sleep on Thursday night so I must
be doing better? Pat and I have so many things
going on with our futures and wine club, it keeps me busy...........so
Sometimes I know drugs of any kind including alcohol can give you a
false security feeling. That can create a problem by covering up the
pain. Sometimes, especially with back problems, I need to be still and
by taking pain killers, I can re-injure my back and
not know it. But I have found moving around and being active is what my
burns need while my back would be better staying very still for
probably only one day or so. I guess I fell on my back with the hot food
sitting on me, mostly on my bottom right foot.
I remember sitting there for a minute or so screaming. I know I got up
and took a shower knowing my back was in the greatest pain. I don't even
remember looking at my foot until day three and then realizing I have a
burn. My back has subsided. I will be fine..........but
I know we all have experienced pain in one part of our body and then you
get another pain and the first pain is forgotten. That is probably why
Acupuncture works, it directs the pain away. My pain was more intense
with my back and then when the back problem
became less intense I felt my foot. Now that my foot has been feeling
better by walking around, my back is being felt again. I remember the
pain in my back at the beginning and I know I probably should have
stayed in bed the first day or so. I might have hurt
my back by staying active. I think my foot should be moved around more
so I am not sure what should be done next.........after all, tomorrow is
another day.
Saturday April 5, 2014: Today I am in more
pain with my foot. Now at 2pm I have taken off the wrap. This morning
after sleeping very little, I got up in great pain from my foot. After I
took off the wrap I felt better because the
gauze had attached to the oozing wound and of course that hurt when it
was pulled off of the skin. I am now sitting here with a towel
underneath my foot and I think that is better than having the gauze
stick to the skin again. At dinner time I will wrap it
again and at bed time I am planning to take the wrap off and put a
towel underneath my leg. I am worried about tossing and turning during
the night and thus rubbing on the towel so I will see how that goes. I
think the burns need more air to dry out.
Sunday April 6, 2014: My foot is still
swollen. I have kept the bandage off my foot for 24 hours and I am doing
better, but of course my back is being felt again.
Thursday April 17, 2014: My back is no
better, maybe worse so I decided to call and received an appointment
with a Nurse practitioner at 4:30 today, very impressive......my regular
doctor was sick. This new doctor, as I call her,
scheduled an xray for tomorrow. I am having trouble dealing with the
pain in the night.....the day is fine.....why........? I have no idea
why I have more pain at night nor does anyone else. So tomorrow I go in
for an xray, I asked why not a scan.......her
answer was, Dave, we only do scans if there is a known problem. Xrays,
first and as she suspects, if they are normal, she will send me to a
conditioner, my words not hers. I asked about acupuncture and she gave
me a name. I also have an appointment with a
known back surgeon on Monday.
Friday April 18, 2014: My xray of my back
came out positive!! I have a fractured bone in my back. The nurse
practitioner said it was bad news, I think it is good news since now I
know in a few more weeks I will be back to normal.
I just have to find a way to sleep comfortably on my left side. My
right side is where the bone is fractured so I have to stay away from
there. I have no trouble walking and actually I just walked a half mile
to see our new solar down by the creek. I am staying
active and will drive down to see my Mother on Sunday. I will be
consuming more tequila!! I can stand pain...............I am happy to be
alive.........
Hi Gang, Congrats on the amazing accepted offer. The buyers would like to
have their mother through tomorrow at 2:00pm. I know this is a tricky
time as you come back home but I think it would bode well in moving the
purchase forward. Thoughts? Dave
