River Otter Blues: Friday, September 13th!

Many a man thinks he is buying pleasure, when he is really selling himself to it. -Benjamin Franklin, statesman, author, and inventor (1706-1790)

Greetings from Madroña Manor! Cycled to HB and then from DB, yesterday, to have a wonderful lasagna dinner by Lurch. Will drive Occupying Army to Nanaimo Airport around 10:00 am today. Cora Lee, Toshi, (former boarder at Hotel Kits), and Gayle/Derek, house exchange friends from Cornwall, will come over later this afternoon. I'm here until the 18th, gang will return to Vancouver on 16th. Hellos and best wishes from Lurch/Grogg. When do you arrive in Vancouver? Have you been to language class yet? Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Beth/Pat, Just looping you in for communication. Next WED is food waste and recycling-Pat will look after. WED the 24th will be food waste and garbage. I put an extra sticker on the 2nd garbage can (currently empty) in case you need it Beth. Hot tub is just changed, so all set-just need to do the usual little chlorine puck every couple of days. Aqua Finesse each Monday or Tuesday-shake well, add 360MLS. Cheers, Gregg & Francesca

More than tasty wet scrambled eggs, atop English muffins, and sausages for such a delish breakfast, à la Lurch! Left around 10:20 am to take Tennessee bound folk to Nanaimo. Once back from airport sent a few messages, did a tad more unpacking and then suited up to go for a ride. Left to go cycling at just before 1:00 am. Rode through Rathtrevor and Englishman River estuary development before hitting Parksville. Then did loop to Qualicum Beach and Coombs and back, relishing every km on such a glorious day. Home by about 5:30 pm, pleased as punch with outing. Stats for ride:

Gang did not arrive until around 7:00 pm as there was a"Police Incident" on ferry so vessel left an hour later than scheduled! Once Titanium Green was unloaded, G/T's on patio then I showered/changed, (I had started to ready kitchen for dinner while expecting crew to pull into driveway at any minute. No response to my desperate calls for ETA status so I did something productive instead of biting my fingernails!), to enjoy Cora Lee's fab bbq'd salmon, boiled spuds/butter, (Gayle), fresh asparagus, (Gayle again), and Derico's wonderful mixed green saladin. (Thanks for lovely La Frenz 2006 Shiraz, 14%, Grogg. Derek was bowled-over by the quality of the wine, especially when I told him it was from The Naramata! He had no idea of what sort of red is being produced in the Okanagan. English reds tend to be pretty thin as you can probably imagine. Still, so were those first made in the Okanagan when we first started tasting there in mid 80's.) Toshi set table in dining room so we could enjoy view! Chocolados and malt, (Lads), Grand Marnier, (Lassies), in front of fire to chat, (incredible moon on the water), until everyone's eyelids started to droop. Fab, fab time and English/Japanese visitores much impressed with Madroña Manor and environs! Probably cycle to Goats tomorrow to meet Babes for luncheon and lattes.
