Elinor of Aquitiane Blues: Monday, August 3rd!

The world is changed not by the self-regarding, but by men and women prepared to make fools of themselves. -P.D. James, novelist (3 Aug 1920-2014)

Are you just staying the one night. Wayne              Hello Harbour Terrace! Yes, Wednesday night, if that isn't an imposition. Thanks. Must away as Elinor Culos is coming shortly. Jane just phoned and she and Kjell won't be arriving until tomorrow now. Let me know about staying overnight on Wednesday and I'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Dinner with Erika and Amy and Naramatian produce!

Sounds like you are making new friends in the area. All the best with the cycling, better you than me. I can hike for 8 hours but don’t put me on a bike! Hope to see you in September. Agneta

Santiago! Where are you? Friend, Elinor, who was spending the weekend, in Narmata, with a number of girlfriends, arrived here, around noon, to stay overnight. We took a stroll to the lakefront and ended up at Cannery Brewing, recently relocated, in Penticton, to but a few blocks from where we live. We sat at a large picnic table to enjoy our "samplers", four different beers, and started chatting with the people sitting next to us. One of the couples, Krista and Scott McLelland, from Calgary, were in town for a wedding: The Twinning Wedding, same wedding that close friends, Ellen and Ben Cartwright, from Vancouver, were here for! Ben and I played doubles at VRC. Great that we spend time with people we don't even know and you and Ellen are nowhere in sight! Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Hi Sarge! How did your long weekend go? After Elinor, (Salmon George's ex), arrived here, yesterday, around noon, to stay overnight,  we took a stroll downtown to show her around. Once back, The Sisterhood took naps, in the shade of the gazebo, while I readied dinner: watermelon salad, garlic, (with more of Peter's fabulous bulbs, baked on bbq, when Mme Coriandre roused herself from her snooze), mashed potatoes, topped with green oniones, and wonderful salmon, again, grilled to poifection, by Cora Lee. We spent a lovely time, not only over dinner but also over the course of the day, catching up with all the things that have happened to Elinor and Julia, her daughter, over the last three or four years since we have really seen them.

After we left the table, we repaired to the gazebo to sip on few snorts of malt, The Goils surprising me by knocking back their portions with much relish. Had been a busy weekend for Elinor so she headed for bed around 10:30 pm while Cora Lee and I stayed up to watch an episodes of Homeland. Lady Mary was starting to fade after one but I watched two more so didn't retire until 1:15 am or so.

Elinor will drive back to Vancouver after breakfast tomorrow morning and we expect Kjell and Jane to be here, sometime later that afternoon, for a couple of nights. Jane phoned this morning to say she hoped they would catch the 10:00 am ferry from Nanaimo. Will be fun to catch up with them but will really only have Tuesday night to do so as I'm planning to leave between 8:00 am-9:00 am Wednesday morning as I'm taking my car into Coastal Ford to have new tires put on the vehicle. I will drop by your place, around 1:30 pm, I hope, first to drop off what luggage I have and change into my cycling garb. I am bringing my bike as I intend to go for a few rides, tomorrow and on Thursday, before I collect The Danes at YVR. We will head right back to Penticton as soon as they clear Customs.

While I'm away, my cousins, The Goldilocks People, from Kenton, are supposed to arrive on either Wednesday or Thursday, from Columbia Falls, Montana, where, I believe, they have been camping. Another full house! Will you be at home on Wednesday afternoon? If not, I'll just leave my stuff on your patio. If so, are you interested in a ride? How is Grogg? On another matter, I just heard a news bulletin about the terrible wildfire raging near Clear Lake, just north of Healdsburg, etc. Nothing like it in more than fifty years, apparently, and getting pretty close to Coffaros, of course. Anyway, let me know what you think about Wednesday and we'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Looks good. I will be home tomorrow afternoon.Wayne Hi again, Sarge! See you then. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi y'all We 4 will be staying at Summerland waterfront resort and spa from September 7 to September 10 to give Dana and baby a break. We don't intend to stray far from there as Picasso will be with us too but just plan to enjoy the beach/ the water with our feet up but would love if you could come and visit for a coffee or wine or whatever you like Hope to see you then Cheers Brenda and Wally

Hi Grand Parent Picasso and Your Human Associates!Terrific to hear from you, Brenda Louise! Trust everyone is well. Feel terrible that I've not been in touch sooner! As usual, no excuses but plenty of reasons! Gradually settling in and very, very pleased to be in Penticton. Loads to tell but for now, just the recent past! While I'm in Vancouver, Wednesday/Thursday of this week, my cousins, The Goldilocks People, (Long, long back-story if I've not told it before!), from Kenton, Manitoba, are supposed to arrive on either Wednesday or Thursday, from Columbia Falls, Montana, where, I believe, they have been camping. Another full house!

On another matter, I just heard a news bulletin about the terrible wildfire raging near Clear Lake, California, just north of Healdsburg, etc. Nothing like it in more than fifty years, apparently, and getting pretty close to very good friends, Pat and Coffaro, who own a small but marvellous winery there. Our dear friends, Nancy and David, lost their home in 1991 in the devastating Berkeley/Oakland Hills fire that October. I had been down there, wine-tasting, with good friend, Gregg, and we left about ten cases of wine in their basement as we had about twenty cases in total, too, too much for his car to handle. They lost everything but, in a crazy twist of fate, our household insurance covered my wine. David and Nancy had no household insurance of their own, (Short-sighted, in retrospect but when they moved in, (House belonged to Nancy's parents and it was insured, fortunately!) they were grad students and 15 years later had never bothered to insure anything as most of their furniture and appliances were, when acquired, second-hand or cast-offs, etc. They were not compensated for anything other than building.

Anyway, delighted to learn you will be in the neighbourhood in September. Funnily enough, we have stayed at the same resort, quite a few times. Latest was this past January when we were up, with Corinne's parents, looking for a property to buy, somewhere between Summerland and Osoyoos. I ride by the place whenever I cycle to Summerland to "attack" Peach Orchard Road! Again, funnily enough, we have very close friends, from London, (Penny and Mike), who will be flying to Calgary first, to sight-see in Rockies for a week or so, before we meet in Kamloops where they will drop off their rental car, September 18th. I was planning to be in touch, (at some point!), to see if we might have arranged a short visit, at that time. We are hoping to spend a night, before heading to Penticton, at Little Shuswap, with Ruth and Rick Toews, at their lovely cabin there but they might well be in Berlin visiting their son, Alex, doing grad work at the Max Planck Institute! He is a very bright lad as you might surmise.

Before then, Ayn will be flying to Bellingham, from LA, mid-August and then she and Chloƫ will drive to Penticton for a week or so. Will celebrate Chloƫ's 39th birthday while they are here. So plenty more to tell and hear about your lives, of course. Thanks for getting in touch. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Fond regards from Cora Lee to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Friend, Whirlygig, and I a few Sundays ago. I drove Cora Lee to Vancouver as she was off to NY for ten days, will close friend Robyn. Since it was Folk Fest I stayed in town for weekend; Cora Lee with mister and book in our back yard; Lynne, Amy, Peter and Erika, this past Sunday. Lynne and Cora Lee were in Library School together and she and Peter now live in Naramata. Amy is Erika's daughter. First met her this past June when were in Winnipeg for Corinne' parent's 70th wedding anniversary. Just so happened that my high-school, (Daniel McIntyre), home room class reunion took place while we were in city. Erika was at luncheon and we discovered that she owns a B&B, Alpine Rose, in Summerland! First time we had been able to get-together since were back from Wpg/NY, etc. The Babes outside Cannery Brewing; Knocked out!
